tisprSMILE gets KARAgeous
A driving force in the freelance community, the tispr platform connects local freelancers with local opportunities, linking uniquely diverse talent with the ventures that need them.
With a stellar collection of talents readily available, it’d be a shame not to use that power for the greater good…thus, tisprSMILE was born. The initiative brings qualified people together all in the spirit of altruism – lending talents to causes that may not otherwise have access, for the simple purpose of bringing a smile to those most deserving.
Last year tisprSMILE partnered with organizations like the Saving Sophie Foundation and CannaKids. Next on the docket was “Kara’s Dream Come True,” where tispr gathered members of their internal team and some of Los Angeles’ best and brightest freelancers to facilitate a magical day for four-year-old Kara Khamo.
Kara (or @beKARAgeous as she’s fondly known by her Instagram supporters), was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma (nerve tissue cancer) days before her aunt and uncle’s October wedding, where she was meant to be the flower girl. Dedicated to embodying her role Kara had been twirling around in her special dress for days, but once her diagnosis was received she was unable to attend the ceremony. Devastated, her parents assured her the “real” wedding was coming soon…
Enter tisprSMILE! We rolled out the royal treatment by not only recreating the wedding of her family’s dreams, but also incorporating some of Kara’s favorite things (princesses and dancing), with the world-famous Hollywood Castle as the perfect backdrop.
During the event the princesses helped Kara “say yes to the dress” and get ready to strut her stuff down the aisle. The reception saw her and her father sharing a special dance, and Kara wrapped up the festivities with a touching rendition of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song.”
All talent directly sourced from the tispr app included:
- 7 of Kara’s favorite Disney Princesses
- Swing Dance Teachers
- Caricature Artist
- Catering (princess cupcakes, duh)
Weddings are a celebration of love, and this event was no exception. While the bride and groom were indeed lovely, it was Kara who ushered in love and spread it around like confetti. With a delicate flower crown upon her head she was dedicated to her role as flower girl (totally nailed it if you ask us), with a grace and strength that only Kara could embody – a true princess.
tispr was honored to be a part of it, and with thousands of freelancers on hand ranging from illustrators to translators, musicians, makeup artists, graphic designers, calligraphers, accountants, social media marketers and everything in between, we can’t wait to do it again. It’s with a heavy heart we update this post that sweet Kara Khamo went home to heaven April 25th, 2017. To donate to her family or read more about her story, please visit their GoFundMe, Caring Bridge, or Instagram. Prayers for Kara, always.
